Ok, I know you're out there - let's get a show of hands for all the designers still using OS9! I promise not to laugh at you (much).

Feel free to justify your decision.

The Smithsonian called and they want their computers running OS 9 back.

Seriously though, I bring it up because I was just working with an OS9 user yesterday - can you believe it?

Yes, indeed. I'd say over 50% of the print shops around here are using OS 9.
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Using Panther at home (as well as Classic) and OS9 at the office (haven't been able to convice the bean-counters to pony-up for one of those "expensive" Macs and all new software)

I only semirecently upgraded to panther, it was a bumpy transition from jaguar. I imagine alot of people only upgrade to x because most of the current design software only runs on x.

These are the people in question. The old school designers who don't like change and can barely check their email, yet alone upgrade their OS.

I think that's an extremely unfair characterization. I know many designers who haven't moved to OSX. Some (like myself) are hamstrung by office bean-counters who aren't willing to cough-up funds for a new Mac capable of running OSX well. Others...well...they're getting the job done and done well with the setups they have. Finances are tight. Upgrades take a back burner. Eventually, they will upgrade.

I know lots of publishing folk who still use os9, partly from cost, partly from convenience. Some people who do audio work as well.
Personally, I'd likely trash Classic since I rarely use these days, and only for Quark 4, my older Canon scanner and a few old games.
