So, after all these years--what games still stand out to you as classics?
also what's your favorite "sleeper" game?
favorite: Chrono Cross
sleeper: Devil Dice

My favorite PS1 game, hands down, is Final Fantasy Tactics. After that, I'd probably have to go with a bunch of remakes -- Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, FF Anthology, and FF Chronicles.

Favourite PS1 game would probably be Gran Turismo 2. Favourite sleeper game , well I liked Bushido Blade, it was a Japanese sword fighting game, but instead of Tekken/Street Fighter style energy bars, you could kill, or die, in one hit, or if you got nipped on the leg or arm, that part would hang limp from the injury. It was cool.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

the original Hot Shots golf was the best. while not the first golf game, it was pretty damn original and the replay value was fantastic.
i would also play the original Demolision Derby for hours.

I think the original PS is my all around favourite system, as I think it had the best games. Or maybe I'm just growing out of this hobby, I don't know...
Games that have stuck with me:
-Lunar: Silver Star Story
-FF7 (the best FF, in my oppinion)
-Parasite Eve
-Resident Evil 2 (the best RE, in my oppinion)
-Metal Gear Solid
-Suikoden I & II

You'd call those games the best in history? No offense, but it sounds like the PS was the first system you owned.
BTW, FF6 is by far the best of the series.

I've owned an Amiga something, NES, SNES, GameBoy Pocket, N64, PS, DC, GameBoy Advance SP and now a PS2.
To me, the games I listed were my Favorite PSOne games. No, I wouldn't call all of them "the best games in history", but again, that wasn't the question being asked.

i heard that it does not run under X or classic, only os9. my powerbook won't boot to os9, and i am not buying an old imac to play one game. it'd be a lot cheaper to buy the ps1.

If I were to break out the Playstation again, it would be to play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Damn I loved that game.

I only said that in response to your comment saying the PS is your favorite system because it has the best games. I took that to mean the best games (that is, the cream of the crop) as opposed to, say, the most good/great games. Looking at your list of favorite PS games makes me wonder what your favorite NES and SNES games are (and how the PS trumps those two systems in your opinion).

well if you want to look at all the systems I would definatly go with excite bike on NES.
you had a turbo and could make your own track. That was so much fun. Oh and definatly mike tyson punch out. I have that on my iBook. Good game. Couldn't find excite bike though.

Or you could use the free, yet to be released PCSX for OS X.

Oh yeah, you gotta love the PSX. I bought one just so I could play Final Fantasy VIII and think it's still the best system I ever had - best games ever
My all time favorite is Final Fantasy VIII (obviously), second is Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and third is Colin McRae Rally along with Gran Turismo 2. I also loved Resident Evil (every single one) and Dino Crisis

It's a given -
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Wipeout 2097
3. Wipeout
and I would be convinced to say Tomb Raider I as well.
The reasons? Nothing else has come close to any of these games in recent times.
Play Wipeout 2097 at four in the morning after twenty shots of tequila and you'll sober up in three minutes, Wipeout 3 - you'll fall asleep.
Go figure!

Intelligent Qube - I still play it from time to time.
Though, it probably wins the award for most melodramatic soundtrack for any game.
