I just got a new 2G 6gb iPod Mini yesterday. I also have a 4G 40gb iPod I got last August. A friend told me I should be able to insert the mini iPod into the full size iPod's dock to synch it. It sure fit, but there was no response on my Mac or the iPod mini. Must be some changes in the way the connectors are set up? I have the Firewire cable set up on my iPod dock which is connected to my older G4 desktop ( without USB2). I used the USB 2 cable on my 17" Powerbook and it works fine. The Powerbook also has the latest iTunes 4.7.1 while the desktop has the 4.7. I would have prefered to set it up on my desktop system that has the master iTunes list.

Any insights appreciated! Nelsun

I'm assuming the new mini has the same dimensions as the older models. Use the belt clip. Connect it to the mini upside down, about 1mm from the top. This should allow the mini to connect to the dock while the belt clip keeps it from tipping over.

I would also bet that the new mini needs 4.7.1. I would upgrade iTunes on your G4 to 4.7.1 to see if that works - Apple often requires the latest software version for new hardware. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the insights. I will also update the Mac OS on the G4 to 10.2.8 as it's still 10.2.6.

As far as the powerbrick goes, assuming it's not an issue to use a firewire powerbrick from my 4G iPod to recharge the new iPod mini?

Thanks!
