Wow I thought I was the only one having this. It happens on the brand new 15" powerbook all the time. So frustrating. What causes this!!!! It makes wireless worthless.

WARNING—If you have the M-AUDIO Audiophile 2496 PCI hardware card installed, think carefully before installing this update. On my G4 733 DA, it causes an endless audio loop and or kernel panics EVERY time I select Sound in the System Preferences pane. Apple has been informed about this from 8F30 and has duplicated the bug (but they must be waiting on a driver upgrade from M-Audio). I have also informed M-AUDIO tech support but no reply yet.

PithHelmet Fix

1. Close Safari.
2. Navigate to /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/PithHelmet.bundle.
3. Open bundle and go to Contents.
4. Open info.plist - You can use either Property List Editor or TextEdit.
5. Locate BundleIdentifier for com.apple.Safari.
6. Change BOTH MaxBundleVersion AND MinBundleVersion to 416.12.
7. Save and relaunch Safari.

This should work until an official update is available.

Nice... now Safari works with Google Maps without beachballing all the time!

Yeah, and neither does the Terminal. No change there. It won't be fixed before 10.5, either. Didn't you know? Auto-hide only works with odd-numbered releases of OS X. In 10.1, auto-hide worked acceptably - the app showed up briefly on startup, then disappeared. In 10.2, it was broken and if you had more than three apps auto-launching at login, chances are one or two of them would randomly not hide. In 10.3, auto-hide worked great - you wouldn't even see the app's window as it would hide while it was launching. Until the iCal update came out, of course - this caused iCal to flash on the screen before hiding à la 10.1. Finally, in 10.4, auto-hide is completely worthless, at least for me, because of all the apps that I try to have auto-hide on startup, the only one that actually does, ironically, is iCal. Grr...

I was just about to say this and it works with AcidSearch too. I haven't tried with Saft, but does anyone know of a standalone plugin that closes the Download window after the download is finished and/or handles tabs better as in opening all new links in a tab instead of a brand new window?

I don't seem to have that problem. This is with the earlier "K" version. What I did notice, however, was that my Salling Clicker script that "activated" Front Row no longer automatically launched the application if it wasn't already running. Additionally, if it was running it no longer goes into "Front Row" mode .... instead it just "selects" the hidden app. I then needed to hit Enter in order to go into Front Row. So what I did was add the compiled script to launch Front Row to my Login Items list. Perhaps you are experiencing something similar?

I've been playing with 10.4.3 for a while now. Initial impressions are as follows:

Positives

- Safari is noticeably faster. Google Maps is working again.
- Spotlight is much faster. App launching is a breeze now.

Negatives

- MouseWorks 2.8 no longer sees my Kensington PilotMouse Bluetooth. I get a "No Kensington pointing device found." error message. The built-in drivers work OK ... but I did prefer some of the fine-tuning for mouse speed/acceleration that was available with the third party driver.

Aside from all the things that people have pointed out in this thread so far, it also seems that Apple has *finally* addressed X11. Under Tiger, X11 was notoriously buggy and unstable (windows would randomly vanish, cmd+tab would not bring X11 into focus, etc.). I've been using it for about an hour so far, and it seems like these problems might have finally been fixed.

I ran the verify disk and get minor volume bitmap repair required.

Okay. Don't remember how to start up from CD/DVD. Do I hold down the C key?

Better yet, should I do this yet or wait a day to see what others experiences are? Oh the fun of living on the edge.

Other than that, everything is zippy, snappy, faster.

IE works fine for me.

On a side note, the kb article on this update states the following: "iChat preferences now allow you to display emoticons (such as a smiley face) as text (such as " :-) ") instead of as a graphic."

I cannot find that preference. Anybody else?

Yep same version, however I think I figured it out.

It appears, quite ironically I might add, that IE hangs on msn.com which was the default homepage that I never changed. I stopped it before it loaded and tried surfing and it worked.

I ran into this last week with IE users going to msn.com. So, it isn't caused by 10.4.3.

Be Warned.
10.4.3 Mail.app requires that you disable all your mail bundles as it does not work with many of those that worked in 10.4.2. After 3 hours of rebuilding permissions etc, I finally found the problem to be these incompatible mail bundles.
Symptoms are that you cannot update or duplicate any mail rules, and when you create a new one, and then close the preferences window. Also the mail rules cease to function.
As soon as I disabled them (except spamsieve) all was back to normal. Otherwise all is good with this update over an office of 12 Macs.

Now to wait for the updates

I haven't noticed any of that with GrowlMail (my only mailbundle). Do you use that plugin?

Here's a new one...

I have a Logitech MX Laser mouse. I don't have the Logitech drivers installed. It has several buttons, including two around the scroll wheel - sort of like a page up/down. Also, the scroll wheel can rock to the left and right. Up until 10.4.3, clicking the "page down" button would cause the task switcher display to show, like hitting Cmd-Tab. This hasn't changed in 10.4.3.

However, in 10.4.3, pressing the scroll wheel to the left now opens the Spotlight menu! Yikes!

Maybe this is why I can't get my machine to boot...

If I still can't boot the thing after running DiskWarrior (finally almost done), I'll try removing the M-Audio drivers. For the record, I have a Revolution 7.1 PCI card.

I'm not convinced that's the problem, though, as this machine has always taken a *long* time to boot into 10.4 if it's been up for a long time. By long I mean upwards of ten to fifteen minutes. I've run surface scans and everything, and I can't find anything wrong with the hardware.

Maybe you should install the drivers for the mouse. I just bought this mouse last week and it's awesome! It worked right out of the box without the drivers installed but I just installed them anyway to customize the mouse (which I never did anyway) but the 10.4.3 update did nothing to disturb the functionality of the mouse. The page up and down buttons surrounding the mouse have worked before and after the update. Try installing the lastest drivers from Logitech's websight and see if that helps.

For the record, it wasn't the M-Audio card. It just took a *long* time to boot. Man, I need new/bigger hard drives... there's just too much stuff moving around causing too much fragmentation.

From this Apple note:

"Improves compatibility of Safari with many webcams."

Does this mean Safari finally supports the MJPEG format? I can't test it right now because I'm not at work, but one of our cameras uses MJPEG and it never worked with Safari. Some months ago I even wrote Apple a bug report.
