I've just bought 3 x 256 mb modules off of ebay, but there only reading as 128mb when in the machine. I understand sometimes you can have problems with single sided/ dual sided modules and the machine reading them. One of the modules appears to be double sided, the other two are not.

Is this a conflict issue with the machine, or have i been ripped of with ram stating its 256mb but is actually only 128mb.

Please Help!!.

DIMM First Aid (requires OS 9)

This won't fix your problem, but it will probably confirm what it is.

256MB is the maximum the B&W can recognize, so it has to be the correct configuration of columns x rows. Most likely, your ebay modules use a different col/row ratio. If so, they'd recognize as 256 in a G4 AGP, but only 128 in a B&W or G4 Yikes.

Place DIMM First Aid on your HD, then boot from an OS9 CD. Navigate the HD, and run the utility.

Did you mean that the B&W G3 can only recognize 256MB per slot?

It's probably high-density RAM, which your Mac doesn't support. You can't fix that in software.

Yes. With four slots, the maximum system RAM is 1 GB.
