According to reports, Facebook has hired ex-Apple developer and lead Maps designer Richard Williamson. The coder is joining the social network's nascent mobile software group, and is working on an unannounced product. Williamson was fired by Apple's Senior VP for Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue in November.

Williamson was reportedly fired over the failures of the Apple-produced replacement for Google Maps, including missing or inaccurate data. Other criticisms of the app included distorted graphics, and the loss of critical features such as Street View and public transportation directions. Since Williamson's replacement, most of the criticisms of the Maps app have been rectified.

The developer worked at Apple for more than a decade, and was hand-picked by then-CEO Steve Jobs to develop the first generation of software for the iPhone. Other colleagues hired from the same era by Facebook include Mike Matas, Kimon Tsinteris, and Chris Tremblay.

Great, does this mean our Facebook photos will get all distorted and mangled?

Just kidding...good luck with the new gig!

That's Eddy Cue on that picture there. Just thought you'd wanna know, cause it kinda gives the impression that you meant to show that Richard Williamson fella that this article is about.
