Anyone have a clue to the maximum height of a 2.5" drive that can fit in this model powerbook?
12" 1GHz
Thanks in advance.

9.5 mm is the official limit, 12.5+ mm drives block airflow in the machine.

How does one go about replacing the Drive for this machine? Would it be better to take to the Store and have them do it?

Instructions found here - while it's not brain surgery it seems quite tricky and will absolutely void any warranty you might have ...

Why does this matter?!? All modern 2.5" drives are 9.5mm drives that fit any IDE PowerBook.

I would guess that a 9.5mm would be the maximum in the 12"--the case seems to small for a 12.5mm. That said I have a 12.5mm drive in my 15" Powerbook and it fits just fine.
Btw, I didn't know that 12.5mm drives were still available. I thought the 60gb IBM Travelstar was the last portable 12.5mm drive (Hitachi/IBM doesn't make a 12.5mm anymore at least).
