I just upgraded to a new 1.5 12" and I'm erasing the old 867 via the 8-Way Random Write Format. It's been running for almost 48 hours already, and has been "stuck" on the Creating Partition Map since yesterday morning. The progress bar doesn't look like it has moved much since yesterday. Is this normal, or should I power off the machine and restart?

Thanks

It shouldn't take that long, but it can damage your hard drive if you resart int he middle of a format. But at the same time, it sounds like your hard drive may already be damaged.

I don't want to be the one to tell you what to do in case it does ruin your HD, but if it was mine, I would restart, hope the hard drive still mounts, and try formatting again.

That's what I was afraid of. I'll let it run for a while longer to see what happens. I may just bite the bullet and restart it if I don't see any progress by the afternoon.
