I recently purchased a new 17" iMac from the UPenn bookstore. I set it up, went to use Safari, and the webpage opened as if it were using a really slow dialup service! I was connecting the computer to a T1 line?!?! With this occurring, I promptly switched ethernet cables, tried different ports where other apples were working great, but the computer still continued to download webpages, mail, etc very slow.
The question:
Has anyone else had any sort of trouble like this? AND! how can it be fixed? I took it to the computer repair site on campus but they said it seemed to be working fine? I also reinstalled the operating system, but nothing?
Thanks for any help one can give!

I got it from a skinny guy with CRAZY hair. I also got the computer working with the internet...it only needed to have the updates installed from apple....10.4.5 and then 10.4.6. Of course, that was after the computer was sent away for 3 days, then an apple consultant from Applecare came to visit the computer and tore it apart, replaced stuff, and back together..........

Still under warranty = still golden. You're online and running "the latest" hardware; I think you're still ahead of the game despite the hassle.

Agreed...Customer service was great, but new computer should not need external HD, software update, etc to be useable.
The problem dealt with the computer being hooked up to a VoIP LAN connection?! I guess Apple knows about it.

"VoIP LAN connection" is not a meaningful phrase. Every LAN connection (assuming it's routed to the internet at some point) can be a VoIP endpoint.

From what trouble your having I highly think you outta make sure you get your applecare coverage before your 1 year warranty runs out. You can get good deals on them on ebay if your looking to save a few bucks. take it easy!
