I know I used to be able to change the order of songs in a play list in iTunes, but now I can't since I loaded the latest version.

Does anyone know how? I tried grabbing the song and moving it but it snaps right back to where it was.

Thanks

Make sure that the list is organized by the first number column!
"You rise," he said, "like Aurora."

Thanks, but I tried that. It always snaps back.

Any other help?

Thanks,

No, that should do it. It is the only setting that will allow you to move the songs around individually. No other column will allow that.

PM me if you need one on one advice, I always try to help.

Make sure the playlist isn't in shuffle mode.
Make sure its sorted by the order column.
Make sure its a playlist, not the Library.

Should do the trick.

You can only manually arrange regular playlists, not smart playlists.

I empathize with your post, because that's the very thing I had posted above...
but then I realized: all my smart playlists were being sorted on one column or
the other (because that's generally part of *why* we create them). However, if
we click on the leftmost column, even smart playlists can be manually arranged.

You're right! I must have done something differently when I first posted, because I do remember it not working in the smart playlist. But now it does. I thought I had the first column checked, but maybe I didn't. Anyway, I can change the order of both regular and smart playlists.

Hi, and thanks for the suggestions, but it's still not working. I'm in a regular list, and it's highlighted on the numbered column. When I grab a song, the inside edge of the playlist window turns red, (kinda like a tomatoe-y color, not stop sign red) and the song snaps back into place when I try to move it up or down. This is driving me CRAZY!

Thanks again ,

k-

Something sound very much NOT RIGHT karent. I just confirmed that it works just fine on my iTunes 4.9 as well. I have never seen the inside edge of the playlist window turning ANY color as you describe as happening. Do you know how to take a screen shot and post it on these forums ? That might help us identify exactly what the heck you are describing.

Also, do you use it with any type of iPod?

The inside edge of the list window always turns red when you are dragging. That's normal.

Come to think of it, it probably highlights using whatever color you have selected for your normal highlight.

Ah, thank you. I mean, thank you for agreeing something is not right.

No, I do not know how to do a screen shot. I read the forum while at work and my ibook is at home, so I couldn't post a picture until later.

We have a G4 ipod and a shuffle that call the ibook "home."

OK, I got it figured out. Thanks everyone for your help. It seems DH kept putting it in shuffle mode when I wasn't looking. Duh.
