I saw this on Ars...but I still doubt it's real.

If the person that leaked the screenshot really wanted to prove to the world that they're real, he'd have released more screenshots or screenshots that showed more new features.

Piles are actually the last thing I want to know about 10.3 right now. I'm more interested in seeing Finder changes, Dock changes, proof of a new filesystem than the overhyped Piles rumor; which looks quite ridiculous on that screenshot and makes me doubt even more the validity of the screenshot.

Ok I just saw them. What a load of bull. Apple's biggest changes from 10.2 is the blue is a little darker and that messy pile? Ya great way to stay ahead of windows. Man, some people are gullible!

Just cos you can't see the changes, doesn't mean to say that they are not there. And it may be a really old, experimental build.

Basically, there is no way of telling if they are fake.

The only thing funny I noticed is that in the 'About This Mac' box, it says the build number in parenthesis after 10.3. Usually you would have to click the version number to have it switch to showing the build number.

That's the "About the Finder" box BTW. It's fake or really old. Look at the copyright and trademark. Apple would have 2003 stamped there not 2002

If you had a copy of Panther would you post a single screenshot of the "About This Mac" window and 1 pile or would you not post dozens of different ones?

Not to mention that pile is completely useless - the same effect can be achieved right now by putting some files really close together and setting the Finder's font size to 0.

If they want to see how a real fake is done, they should look at that iWalk video from last year - that was classy.

Why does the year says 2002 instead of 2003?

Not quite: it says 10.2 is the year 2002, it does not say 10.2.5

I am not saying they are interesting or real. But there is just no way of telling, and that is my only point. Exept that people have to dispute and bicker about it

IIRC, this was one place on the internet that was obsessed with version numbers in the previous releases of Mac OS X. I guess things have calmed down here since then

No, I meant the 'About This Mac' box, where after 10.3 it says (7D15), usually it wouldn't be there unless you clicked it. But, about the About Finder box, the fact that it does say Copyright 2002 implies that it hasn't changed at all in 10.3, which is kinda sketchy, So I see what you mean.

Plus, for me at least, when I'm taking screenshots and working with them in PS7, ColorSynce always likes turn the Apple blue to a more purple shade, it annoys me. Stupid fake, at least that "piles" sample that someone had their .mac homepage was constructive and intelligent. This looks like silly.

Well the original link doesn't work anymore.

I think its fake, besides, if you had Panther you'd be showing off all the cool things, not a shitty pile.

It looks to me like he added the X launcher and Sketch to the Dock just to insinuate that these are now part of the default OS install and a new iApp,, respectively.

The way I see it there's two things you could conclude about this. It's either 1) fake or 2) a really old developers build. Of course, this has been stated, but I see #2 as a perfectly valid case. If Apple works far ahead like most software companies, they were already hard at work on Panther even a bit before Jaguar was released (Microsoft was already doing Longhorn stuff around the time XP was released). Thus, this could be an old build from last year, explaining the lack of anything besides piles and also explaining the copyright date. A lack of new features would also be why no other screenshots were shown outside of piles and the build number. If there's not much new yet, what are you going to take shots of?

They'd atleast recompile the Finder which would give it a new Copyright date (this also assuming they just use the built in year conventions that every other program uses)
The last Finder recompile was 10.2.1 so it's due for another one soon.

I don't care if it's fake or not.
it has nothing of any interest to look at..

dull dull dull

In fact it probably is real as no one could fake something that mundane.
