By the end of 2004, according to a French interview of Steve Jobs.

By 2004, it is a moving target. I say closer to first half then 2nd half.

My guess is earlier part of the 2nd half. ie. Shipping fall 2004, near the shipping date of the 90 nm dual 3 GHz G5 Power Macs.

Any thoughts on if a 12" model will be available at that time? I'm not real familiar with how Apple releases products.

Give it a rest - no one knows anything except for those that work at Apple.

Probably they will release a 17'' first because it is easier to solve the heating problem with a bigger surface. I think this will be released march/april++. This is a guess, but if they release it later they are going to loose the laptop 64 marked-race for sure. This is not going to happen. The 15'' and 12'' will be released before x-mas next year or before, maybe in September/October.

I am not going to repeat my arguments in details but here is a overview:

- AMD 64 ready for laptops NOW!
- Pentium M II ready after X-mas!
- G4 is an "old" processor which PB share with ibook,
the PB will be updated soon, and it won't anything else
than a 64 bit cpu. Remember Apples need to be first out
with the G5 desktop! They will hold on to their marked
strategy for sure. The time before a cpu hits the laptop marked is never 1 and 1/2 year, this is to much in order to keep the marked
balance.

The heating problems are already solved for the PBs if they are going to release it next year anyway. It is well known that HW spend a lot of time in the labs before they are released in a strategic moment. The reason they haven't said anything is not to stop the sales of PB today, exception of the rumor Steve Jobs put in a spanish newspaper.
(Very stange nobody else have heard about this?)

Well, these are speculations, but if I am wrong Apple is going to loose a lot of potensial marked. I do NOT think I am wrong
How can a boring thing such as a mac or a PC be so exciting??

Don't get a G5 powerbook when they come out. Just don't. I would much rather AMD be the first out the door with 64 laptop cpu. As a consumer I think apple's strategy is rediculous (I type this on an AL15 with tons of small problems, other al15 users know what I'm talking about). I wonder where AMD and Intel will begin the clock-race, which in my conspiracy theory, was planned at the introduction of the PIV/Athlon. Either way, the need for 64 bit processing is a fallacy, so mac users should wait to see how it develops.

Computers suck.
