Yesterday evening I experienced a very edgy phenomenon. My main OS9-Partition doesn't show up in OS X Finder anymore. I'm lucky, it's not deleted or lost, because i still can choose it e.g. in "startvolume", I can access it in the shell. Then I tried the finder-replacement "Pathfinder" - it shows all my partitions, including the "lost" one. WTF?
It seems that the Finder has somehow lost track of it.
I already repaired permissions, ran cocktail and onyx, deleted the finder prefs. Helped nothing... I haven't tried re-install OS X (currently on my machine 10.4.4), maybe anyone here have a clue. Anyone?

You have probably just dragged it out of the sidebar by accident. No reason to swear
Just select Computer > Lost Drive and put it back in the side bar.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Hm, I'm afraid it's not that easy. The lost partition doesn't show up in the Sidebar AND on the Desktop, which seem to be 2 different things.
Btw, what do you mean by "Just select Computer > Lost Drive". I can d'n'd volumes from my desktop to the sidebar of course, but the lost partition is still lost in OS X Nirvana.
hmm... I'm clueless...

Go to the Finder and choose Go To > Computer from the menu.

In the finder, select Go To Folder.
Then type this exactly:
/Volumes
If you can see it, try to recall the exact name, and type in that same thingy:
/Volumes/whateverItsNameWas
I'm sorry I don't have a permanent fix. I have the same problem with an external Firewire drive.
Good luck.
