I'm working with a screen printer who is on Illustrator CS4. I'm still on CS1 (please...no hate. It's an economic thing) I've been trying to feed him a file all day, but every time he tries to open the CS1 file, CS4 chokes and crashes. I've tried the base .ai file and I've tried sending him an .eps. They both crash his CS4. No fonts are involved (all have been converted to paths.) There are a couple of brush effects, though...but surely CS4 can handle CS1 brushes...right? There is also a linked large, masked .png image, but, again, that shouldn't give CS4 any problems.

Anyway, anyone have any issues with opening CS1 files in CS4?

Much thanks.

Can’t say I’ve seen a CS1 file to open for … well, quite some time.

Could you perhaps try posting the file (or, if you don’t want to post the actual file here, just make a quick-’n’-dirty mock-up file that has much the same effects and masked images, etc., and post that here)? Then we could try if they all crash CS4 apps or if it’s something at your printer’s that’s not right.

(And if the latter, we could always convert the file to CS4 so you can send it to him in a format he should definitely be able to read)
