I just got it at my local apple store. They didn't have any display models, but I decided to risk it and see what the new blue looks like. I'm very imprssed. The new blue is stunning. I wasn't a fan of the the old pastel blue, and I'm not disappointed in this new blue. I just synced the iPod and everything is working. I find it very disappointing that they took out the firewire cable. That's alienating all mac owners without a new laptop or G5. Good thing I have an extra cable here or I'd be in for some major wait time with my G4.

I think the first thing would be... Take some pictures and show off your new 6gb mini!
So the blue is stunning? Is it turquoise-like as shown in the pictures on the apple website? OR is it a rich deep blue colour (and the apple photos are just off)?
I'd be interested if it was a rich blue colour... Too bad I already ordered a silver earlier this morning.

If the color screen rumor had been true, I would have bought a 6 gig mini in a second.

Yes but the color screen is useless. At least according to some on this forum.

Derek
I was making the same decision at 9 this morning and decided to get the silver as well. I'm sure we will both be happy.

Yeah I really wanted there to be a color screen, but then I realized that I have a cellphone with an even better screen and 40mb of space on it. I don't own a digital camera, so the photo import wouldn't help me. Hell, I get a new better cell phone in a year for free. And yes it is a somewhat turquoise blue, but i find it a lot more pleasing than the old powder blue. Definitely an eye catcher.

not another 'colour screen' post
i'm quite happy with the monochrome screen and reported 20+ hours of battery life.
A colour screen is useless, you plan on watching films on your ipod or something?

ThinkSecret reports that color screens will come later this year.
Having just gotten my 40GB iPod Photo today, I can say that I really like the color screen. It's a nice change from the monochrome. Album art is just fun!
So I'll get myself a mini when they go color.

I agree! I use an iPod to LISTEN, not to look at! Especially a 6GB model.

I'm happy that the iPod mini doesn't have a color screen or any other stuff that you don't need. I prefer 18 hour battery life over the capability to view photos.
If I wanted to show off my photos, I would carry around a digital camera. There are some high-quality digicams that will fit in your pocket as well as an iPod. The powershot sd300 has a similar footprint to the ipod mini, is only a bit thicker, and has nearly 4X the LCD resolution of the iPod Photo.

Funny, I bought my 6 GB mini over a 1 GB shuffle partially because it has a screen. A colour screen is definitely welcome for the next iteration of the mini.
Some of us are not afraid of progress...

I don't fear progress, just battery life-killers!
If they can add a color screen and keep the battery life the same, then I'm for it! I would just hate to see them cut back on core features just to add something that is not as important.
