Does anybody know how to remove shortcut arrows on OS X? I find shortcut arrows very annoying.

Thank you in advance!

When you make an alias to a file. I am guessing find the source where they are in and edit that appropriately. The guys in the GUI Customization forum know where the icon is hiding.

Oh. I thought that's what he meant, but I don't know why you'd want to get rid of them, they're how you know something is an alias.

If you use CandyBar, you can just put an empty icon as the replacement.

See the reply above you.

EDIT: Well, the reply above me now. D'oh.

If I make an alias, then I know it's a shortcut. When I used to use Windows I would just remove the arrows with tweak ui, but know I don't know how to remove them and they're driving me crazy.

Thanks guys for replying.

This is what i used. Found it on macosxhints.com.
This procedure, which renames the arrow-image file (AliasBadgeIcon.icns) so that the System won't find it, affects all users and accounts and requires administrator privileges. Open Terminal and type:

cd /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Press Return and then type:
sudo mv AliasBadgeIcon.icns AliasBadgeIcon_off.icns
Press Return again, type your administrator's password at the prompt, and you're done. The arrows will be gone after your next restart.

To undo this, repeat the steps above, but swap the positions of the filenames on the second command line:
sudo mv AliasBadgeIcon_off.icns AliasBadgeIcon.icns

Hope that helps.
Thank you

There is some sort of APE fix for this, but it involves disabling the fan/cooling system of your Mac and will cause it to catch fire.

Thanks, I'll try the "catch my mac on fire" method.

You could paste a custom icon over the default one in the Info pane. That way you don't have to modify the system.

NoAliasBadgeX has a single mission: to get rid of those stupid, Windows 95-esque shortcut arrows! (Here in Macland, we call them "aliases.") If after every time you see that dratted little arrow indelibly marring your fine aliases, you've wanted to poke your eyes out with a sharp stick, this is tool will help ease the pain. After running it (and either a logout or reboot), you never should have to see that little stinker again. If for some reason you do want the arrows back, simply re-run the utility and reboot. It toggles on & off the AliasBadge.

edit: Not my creation, just happened to have a copy floating around :^)
