Hi.

Does anybody know if there is any software that will allow you to control the volume and/or mute status of each application individually?

For example, I may want to mute or lower the sound coming from Safari, while having the volume of another application at a different level.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
onlyone-jc.

Windows Vista?

No, but seriously, I don't know.

OS X doesn't support that; the only OS I know of that does support it is Vista, although I'm sure someone could hack Linux to do it.

OS X does support it, albeit with third-party software, since I've just found I can mute the audio output of each individual application using Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack. It doesn't allow the ability to adjust the volume level of each application, but it certainly allows the ability to mute. I'm sure the ability to adjust the volume level of each application could be implemented in to it in the future.

Thanks,
onlyone-jc.

Audio HiJack Pro allows this using filters.

I've just spotted the 'Master Gain' control, and so I can now alter the levels of each application independently (without the filters you speak of).

Thanks,

I really wish you could do this, sometimes the noise levels are ridiculous.
Perhaps in Leopard...
