An enterprising iPhone developer has developed a copy and paste system that works across applications on Apple's mobile device. Since the beginning, users have been clamoring for the functionality that Zac White is now providing as an open source framework called Open Clip. The framework, according to the developer, works well within the constraints of Apple's SDK, and thus has little chance of being axed by Apple's legal department. It is important to note that this isn't an end-all solution; developers must implement the Open Clip framework in their applications for it to work. White states in his FAQ that this is a stopgap solution until Apple implements its own system.

I’m surprised that this is even technically possible.
Definitely good news as it’ll put pressure on Apple’s developers to implement c&p if nothing else.

It's hard to imagine people jumping on board with this knowing that Apple will do something similar soon.

It's esp. useless if Safari, SMS, Notes, Maps, and Mail don't support it.

Personally, I'm shocked that it wasn't included in iPhone OS 1.0.

Yep. Apple needs to support it or else it's useless to me.

So back to square one: wait till Apple puts it in there. According to their recent statements re priorities that could be another while though.

Maybe Apple will get on board now.
