Simple question:

I have a 5.5g (30GB) iPod Video that has the Wolfson Audio chip - sounds great!

I want to replace it with a 32GB iPod Touch (2nd Generation) but ONLY if it uses the same chip (the 1st Generation Touch does indeed).

The audio chip is a Wolfson Microelectronics WM87588G.

From what I gather, the iPod touch 2G uses a Cirrus chip - which, depending upon whom you ask, sounds *better* than the Wolfson.

It certainly has a lower noise floor.

Though my own impression (unscientific, not directly A/B'd) is that I preferred the sound of my (long since stolen) iPod 5G to my current iPod classic's.
