Earlier this week, Hitachi introduced new whole-home speakers, bolstering the company's AllPlay line. Using the new speakers, users will be able to send audio through their Wi-Fi network from a local source or cloud/streaming services such as Spotify, IHeartRadio, and Rhapsody. Each speaker includes multiple inputs, allowing users to send audio to individual speakers from their mobile devices.
Hitachi describes a set up where a user can connect their device to a single speaker via Bluetooth, and the speaker streams the audio from the device to other speakers in the house over a Wi-Fi network. Along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, each speaker also has a standard 3.5mm aux input. There are also apps available from
iTunes for iOS and
Google Play for Android.
The smaller W50 has a retail price of $150; it contains a 10W speaker with dual coil plus apassive bass radiator. The W100 sells for $180, with a 12W speaker boosted by a triple-driver array plus base reflex. The 22W W200 will be sold for $200. It has a quad-driver array, plus bass reflex.
