Hello. There's a problem with one of our G4's at school -- there's a bunch of weird text on the monitor in white, highlighted with a black background, with this exact text:

Panic: we are hanging here
-

I tried reinstalling system (OS 9.2) and it boots on the CD. And when I tried restarting, it goes back to the string of texts again. Any suggestions/solutions?
Any help will be gladly appreciated. Thank you very much.

It has been written in your Open Firmware that the machine is to start in Mac OS X and it seems that your system either is lacking some essential files or some files are damaged. Try to start your machine holding your "Option" key down to see if you get a symbol of an X disc and a 9 disc. Select OS 9 disc. I think this only works if you have 9 and X on different partitions like I do. The other way is to start from your CD and use the Startup-disc Controlpanel on the CD to select 9 or X to start from. This changes the info in Open Firmware. You will probably have to reinstall X.
