Stock machines may be shipped from the US, but if you configured it, it's coming from China.

Yep, BTO books come from China, although they seem to stop in different places on their way to the US. Mine got stuck in Taiwan for a couple of days for no reason, and then went straight to Illinois (I think). I just love the "Designed in California" tag they put on the box (is it there to distract the buyer from the Made in China designation?)

China, especially Shanghai and area, is rapidly becoming the computer OEM capital of the world. Even NEC Japan outsources their actual manufacturing there. Apple, Sony, IBM, Dell, eMachines and a string of others have at least some models manufactured in China these days. Even Intel has IC plants in China.

Yeah, mine was finally shipped from Shanghai.
I guess living in Cupertino doesn't help your ship time...
