there's a guy here on a dutch forum... (www.macosx.nl)
telling he bought a 17" Powerbook in the applestore in NY.SOHO together with a 12" a DVcamera Burton iPod jacket...
and he's also telling that he got a free copy of keynote and 3 apple shirts and a watch with his order.

he's also telling that he was treated like a king, and that everybody was ready for him, when the manager (whom he tells is 23/24 years old) showed the store to him...
and that they ordered luch and that he could stay an have lunch with the people of the store..

I know there are a few people on this forum who are working at the store in SOHO or know someone who's working overthere, can somebody veryfy this or check this great fairytail...?

I thought they didn't sold the 17" yet..
but he said that they sold several 17" without problems..

he doesn't want to make a picture of it...

Among other things, the Burton iPod jackets cannot be purchased from the Physical Apple Stores, only online.

I visited the SoHo store within the last 7-10 days. There is no 17-inch model on display, let alone for sale. They have one 12-incher on display, and the rest are TiBooks.

SoHo has the iPod jacket (in size large) on display but, as KeilwerthSX90R suggests, it can only be purchased online.

MP 2 x 2.8 and etc.

Actually, I think this is true. They even had Steve Jobs fly in from CA to thank him personally for his purchase and give him a back rub.

I just picked up mine at the Glendale, CA store and they said that because I was their first customer I got 10 first class tickets to Tokyo and 10 tickets to Tokyo Disneyland. And, they gave me a 95% off coupon for everything in the store and coupons to all the other stores in the mall and entered into a drawing for a space shuttle ride and I get to fly to Tokyo on Steve's jet and I can't email you pictures of my 17" powerbook because my digital camera that I just bought for $5 from the Apple Store with my 95% off coupon keeps taking pictures of the Powerbook on my desk with my Cinema HD display but for some spooky reason the Powerbook never shows up on the photos.

ps - While I was waiting to be rung up at the store some gorgeous 19" blonde ex-lakers cheerleader now Apple Store employee was massaging me and kept calling me "Mr. President"

Gawd bodhi, what are you just jealous?

Back on topic: The story is un true. He might have pre-ordered a 17" powerbook and would get one free t-shirt, but Apple isn't selling the jackets in their stores, or giving out free watches. If they were, I'd be the first to get one.
Am I still here?

well he's saying he has the powerbook.....not ordered it but bought it..

Then he's lying, unless he's some super uber important Japanese executive that said he must have a 17" Powerbook or the world will end.

I wish I was a super uber important Japanese executive so I could extort a new 17" out of Apple, because I soooo would.

i actually got a FREE 17" powerbook, when soho store employees heard that i'd WALKED to the store (i live about 10 blocks away)

they offered me the jacket, but i live in downtown nyc, and the jacket is a fashion "don't" (so i HAD to turn it down...drat!)

When I went to Apple SoHo they started fanning me with big leaves and then as I approached the glass stairs they all started dancing and entertaining me so I watched a little while and then Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak appraoched me and gave me the 17 inch PowerBook and a 70 inch studio display and btw i got a 99.8% off discount on everything not 95. Then I got in a limo with all the sports illustrated models and .

Thats Fuc**ed up that you got 99.8% off and I only got 95%. And what's with the limo and the girls, that's BS. I'm going to take back my 17" to the Glendale store and fly to NYC to get the ROYAL treatment.

I was in SoHo last week (Wednesday), and they do have a 17" in the display window running the Apple ads.

AND they also had one of the iPod jackets for display. I'm going back tomorrow, I'll let you know if they're still there

Just got back from SoHo Store. 17" is still gleaming in the window. The jacket was still there as well. So much for the display model theory.
