I am in college and I have a mac powerbook DVI. A great maching and I havent had a problem with it. Since I am the only other person on my floor with a mac, a girl asked me if I could help her with her machine. Unfortunately this is WAY out of my league!

She is using a clamshell ibook running 9.0. She tries to access her email at hotmail (with Internet Explorer 4.5) and gets this error reading:

"The identity certificate uses an unknown signature algorithm"

I have NO idea what that means! I wondered if it had to do with the outdated software...
Any ideas?? If not, where could I turn for help (other than the genius bar...)

Yeah, she'll need IE5 - 4.5 may not be able to handle the current crop of certificates, depending on the cipher in use.

But, it could be something simple like a corrupted stored certificate; in IE prefs there should be an option to clear stored certificates - clear them, as long as there's nothing else important there. Give it a try then. If it doesn't work, post back.
