I discovered an easy way to change your font in WoW without a complicated AddOn.
( to the best of my knowledge, WoW can only use true type fonts, .ttf )
Simply:
1) Create a folder in your WoW directory named "Fonts"
2) For your chat windows and button text, copy your desired font to your WoW>Fonts folder, and rename the font "ARIALN.ttf"
3) For everything else, copy your desired font to your WoW>Fonts folder, and rename the font "FRIZQT__.ttf"
I found that myriad looks really nice while maintaining a low profile look. Totally up to you though. Enjoy!

Um, although that's a cool trick, changing the font is a Bad Idea.
The developers know what characters are in the font. If you replace the font with a character set that doesn't have a character the developers intended for certain strings to have, you'll never see all or part of the string, or it'll look like something screwy.

Actually the game code only makes a call to specific font names. Which is why you have to rename the fonts to what I listed, which are the names it calls for.

Starman is saying that if the original font contained characters that aren't in the font you're replacing it with, strings in the game won't come out right. Somewhat similar to if you renamed Symbol to "Charcoal" in Mac OS 9.

I've had my fonts changed for a month or more, and have never had any issues. I don't think there are many "special characters" used in WoW.

I did misread what you wrote apparently. Anyway...
WoW uses no out of the ordinary characters which would not be found in normal everyday fonts. I misunderstood you b/c I figured anyone who's played WoW would know this. But if you wanna use Webdings font I guess yes, your UI would come out looking like shat.

I wouldn't say so. The Insomniax addon (which is one of the most downloaded UI) includes a framexml which changes the font. Never seen an issue like you are describing.
