It's fine for smaller flash files, with not as many graphics. Throw together a few transparent png files and animate them in flash and watch safari drop lots of frames compared to even a 300mhz PC.

Safari is slow period. I'm not sure if it's poor coding or what but even typing is laggy and this is on a dual G5. The only positive thing I can really say for Safari is that it has virtually eliminated pop-up ads.

I know the the Mac Apologists will let loose on me here but IE is by far superior.

Typical Apple Apologist. Flash doesn't suck when it's used properly. Probably the only flash you ever see is the ads in the MacNN lounge. Do you ever leave this place?

While the programming of flash has an impact - it's code! (actionscript [content creator script] - not program code[macromedia]). Flash does run faster on PCs regardless of content. But poor code can bring both down.

Safari bogs down on the input box on MacNN - I'm putting that down to Javascript on the page though.

BTW Flash doesn't suck - its cool - not perfect - but still cool

Nope. That's the animated GIFS. Unfortunately this problem has spread to camino and all the other browsers

I think it might have something to do with QE. This REALLY needs to be fixed cuz it's getting on my nerves.

I do find Safari to be slow, though. That's one reason I use Firefox instead.

I use a PC and Firefox is slow at everything. There's nothing that can compete with the instantaneous speed offered by IE. It's so fast that being any faster would be unnoticeable - a rather pointless endeavour.

Firefox has some very cool features like pop-up blocking, a well organized download manager, and lots of ways to customize the interface. Um...that's all I can think of right now.

Keep telling yourself that. I'm amazed by the speed of IE on my brothers 2ghz Athlon with minimal ram running WinXP. It's tragic that my system, a dual 2.0 G5 with 1.5 gig of ram feels like a 286 in comparison.

I believe they meant that IE on the mac is far worse, which it is. Without doubt IE on the PC is much faster than Safari. Of course its a one-way ticket to spyware and other assorted crap. An FireFox and Camino are faster and better than either on any platform.

I think it's pretty clear that this thread is about Mac browsers; my previous comment was based on the assumption that you were talking about IE for Mac.
