I haven't found a way to lock on the power with an Xserve. Of couse you can get it to restart automatically after a power failure but what is needed is for the Xserve to power up as soon as it plugged in.

For example, if you (remotely) accidentally shut it down you'd have no way of getting it back up again, even with a remotely controlled power switch.

Has anyone found a way of 'locking' on the power so it can't be shut down?

OK so perhaps this hardware 'lock on' is not possible. How about the following:

1. Could you disable shutdown in some way in software?

2. Is there any way to 'wake' a shut down Xserve over IP? ie some sort of 'wake-on-lan'

Anyone tried these things?

I know that you can lock out users from shutting down or restarting the machine using some settings in their user profile. I'm not sure if that will help in your instance, however, if you're trying to keep someone from pushing the button.

Best regards,
Chris
