Since my new TiBook doesn't arrive for another few weeks, my only means of burning right now is via the SCSI burner on my B/W G3, which isn't supported by iTunes or the Finder. So I'd like to know if I currently have any way of burning AAC files from iTunes Music Store to a CD...

So can Toast burn AAC as audio files onto a CD, just like it burns mp3 files as audio tracks?

Or if Toast can't do that, is there a program available that will convert AAC files to MP3 so that I can take those MP3s into Toast?

A bit of a workaround, but you can hook up a line-in cable to headphone out and line in on your G3 then play through iTunes and record to MP3 using recording software.

Quite why Apple have decided to adopt the AAC route is beyond me - it's easy to work around.

But then that's right, theft of music is "behavioural and not technological".

Anyway - have fun.

To burn an MP3 CD, you'd have to convert AAC->AIFF->MP3 first (use iMovie or Toast to do the AAC->AIFF conversion, then use iTunes to go from AIFF->MP3).

If you're just looking to burn an audio CD, Drag the songs from the iTunes Window into the Toast Window and it will do the AAC->AIFF conversion in the fly. You have to have Quicktime 6.2 installed, but assuming you do, it will work fine.

Okay so Toast can convert the AAC file. That's very good news.

Thanks.
