get some christian music . Ive heard it sucks...
seriously though. for me, house/techno/trance/electronica is all I listen to while I work out. global underground, dave seaman, anthony pappa, its all good for long mindless hours on the trainer.

TOOL, it will make you want to break stuff -- then put that energy into your lifts.

You want some serious music to help you focus on your workout.

depends on the workout?

for cardio, I have a smart playlist that picks out all of the weird trance / techno / electronica tracks that are around 5 minutess long, so I can zone-out and just keep running, stair-stepping, biking, rowing or whatever, but still keep a general track of how long I've been at it. I get distracted if I stare at the counter on the machine. My b/f has like 40 gigs of this stuff, so I'll just load up my iPod with a random smattering from the smart playlist before I head to the gym each morning, which keeps it fresh.

For weight training, I actually like to listen to This American Life ( http://www.thislife.org http://www.audible.com ). It's an hour long, which is how long I usually lift, and it seems to encourage me to go slow about it, and focus on proper form. It also makes me laugh, it's a great, entertaining, often funny show, and it helps keep me from getting too serious about the workout.

I've been subscribing to This American Life since september, through audible, so I have a good library of episodes to pick from during the week. If I don't have a new one, or not in the mood for it, then I'll go back to the cardio playlist and zone out.

I can't listen to the show while I run, though, because I just get too distracted and move alot slower. Sometimes, I find a listening to an album front-to-back is good too.

your mileage may vary, but I recommend you check out This American Life

front line assembly
all albums but best suited for working out: millennium, gaustic grip, hardwired and the single plasticity(if the "mother of all bombs" was a song this would be it, women and children first). warfare electronics that will have your blood pumping through your veins in no time.

rammstein
all albums, german opera metal/rock, jawohl! yeah whatever.

funker vogt
shave-your-head, militant, testosterone filled brainless combat-techno. maschine zeit is their best album but any will do because they all sound the same.

sepultura
album: anything will do but i prefer 'roots'.

nitzer ebb
albums: that total age, belief. old skool ebm.

kmfdm(and mdfmk)
albums: any recent. more industrial rock.

ministry
albums: the mind is a terrible thing to taste, psalm 69, Live - in case you didn't feel like showing up. industrial rock like it use to be. legendary and unmatched.

noise unit
album: strategy of violence. more harsh technoid warfare that will shape your body into a humvee in no time.

red harvest
norwegian "apocalyptic industrial paranoia metal" that will have you squat till your head explodes. personal fave ablum: cold dark matter.

going off-topic a bit...

I love that show. I don't listen regularly but I got hooked after our local PBS affiliate played an hour last year about a female Poker player in Vegas. It was really good.

For cardio/aerobic exercise, I try and find techno songs from movies/TV shows with good fight sequences or chase scenes. These usually have a good fast-paced beat, since that's what they were going for in the movies.

Some of the ones I have used are songs from:
Matrix / Matrix Reloaded
Tomb Raider
Mortal Kombat
Alias (TV show)
and others that I forget.

these are the top songs I use:

A Little Less Conversation - Elvis VS. JXL
Song 2 - Blur
Stop The Rock - Appollo 440
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
No Easy Way Out - Rober Trepper
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet - BTO
Let's Get Ready To Rumble - Jock Jams

The last one is amazing, because it gets you really pumped up. It's a remix of many different high energy songs...
