Very good idea! I would recommend that you use the Apple feedback and post a feature request!

If you right-clicked on a bunch of selected folders/files in Jaguar the contextual menu gave you an option to collect all the files into a new folder called something like "Gathered Items (Wed, Apr 23, 2003 8.39.00 pm)".

But in Panther this option is no longer there.

That wasn't Jaguar, that was FruitMenu -- and it still works in Panther. Go get it.

Maybe you had installed a third party contextual menu extra?

Excellent idea. I can't even say how many times I've wanted that to happen.

There's a script which works with the Big Cat CM plugin which does this.

Oh, that explains it!

I have not installed FruitMenu on Panther yet as Unsanity say it is still undergoing beta testing.

Thanks for pointing it out I was really missing this functionality but I now know it will reappear when FriutMenu is updated!

It is easily possible to add an applescript to the toolbar that does about that. No keyboard shortcut then though.
