Anyone live in Ohio?

I was thinking of relocating to the Mason, Cinci area. Just wondering what people do for Jobs down there.

I think you have to go to California to be able to do something for Jobs!

Not to knock Ohio, but the only people I know who relocated there are people who went for work. Why do you want to move to Ohio of all places?

I moved out of ohio last year because there were no jobs for grads. It might be different now but i just read an article saying according to new census data, Cleveland is the poorest big city in the U.S.

http://www.cleveland.com/census/inde...9224164580.xml

Granted, you want to move to Cinci...However, If you really want to find a good job in Ohio and have a nice place to live, Columbus would be the best bet. There's all sorts of huge companies/institutions based there: Nationwide Insurance, Abercrombie, Limited brands, The Ohio State University and more! It's also a great place to live if you're single too!

I live in cincinnati, work in mason, but i'm about to be a freshman in college, so i don't know the professional job market so well. There's a lot of companies with headquarters or regional bases here, i.e. P&G, GE, Kroger, Jergens... There's more. It just all depends on what you want to do.

Not to rain on your parade, but Dubya is spending a lot of time in Ohio lately, because it, along with Michigan, were two of the hardest hit states in the recession, and neither is recovering as fast as the rest of the nation. That's primarily because they're Rust Belt states, that have been hit hard by loss of manufacturing jobs. I'm not saying you won't find a job, but it ain't gonna be easy.

My brother lives in Lorain, which is a dying old shipyard town. He's fortunate, because he's working at a steel mill, and steel demand is extradorinarily high, because of the boom in building in China, of all places.

Good luck.

Awesome place if you're single Oh and the job market is not that bad where I live (just north of Columbus). It all depends on what you're looking for really.

Yeah...maybe ur a little bit wrong, but if you don't want to admit it that's fine. I'm from Cinci, I've seen no evidence that there's ANY more loss in Ohio than anywhere else. We aren't ALL hillbillies mining coal and growing corn.

Mason's a good town to move to...good luck!

Well im not adverse to travelling if i have to. The thing I would like to avoid is to take too much of a pay cut. I wouldnt mind driving an hour each way if it meant keeping similar money.

Thanks for all of your help thus far.

I consider myself an Ohio person. Born and raised a Buckeye. Entered the Air Force in 1974 and haven't been back. My brother still lives there.

I was born in Euclid Ohio. It is about 20 minutes from Cleveland. Lived around that area till I was 5.

I still live in the Ohio valley, just in a different state.

I live closer to Marietta Ohio.

actually, both candidates in this race and all presidential races in recent history spend a lot of time in Ohio primarily because of it's hefty electoral vote count and belwether status in presidential elections. Whatever way Ohio goes is typically the way of the election and it's always been a close race in this state.

They spend plenty of equal time in other similarly close states.

Dubya has been to my city twice this summer.

WV usually Votes Democratic across the board, but voted for Bush this last election. So it too is a tossup.

I never mentioned anything about "hillbillies mining coal and growing corn." You brought the issue up in your reply, so it's your issue. I stated that Ohio is a large manufacturing state, and that it's been hit by the recession, and by the loss of manufacturing jobs, which is true. I live in Michigan, which is also a hard hit state, as concerns manufacturing jobs. It's a fact that our country is losing manufacturing jobs overseas, which is going to hurt us in the long run (that's for another thread), and the Midwest, which has been the hub of the auto industry has been harder hit. Just because you haven't seen any evidence doesn't make it so.

The job market is thin in Ohio, but if your good at what you do then you should be able to find something. I agree with an earlier post that said Columbus is your best bet. It's a big city that seems much more like a small town. It's got a lot of large businesses, but it's friendly and easy to get around.

BTW, anyone in Columbus interested in attending a Mac Meetup? Sign up here if you are: http://mac.meetup.com/26/

I don't think an actual Columbus Mac Meetup has taken ever taken place, but I'd like to get one statrted.

I don't live in Ohio, but I am not too far away in Louisville, KY - Gods gift to the world. It is about 2 hours away from cinci. If ouh are considering a move to to the area, don't overlook Louisville as a potential place to relocate.

Loiusville is kinda far away. We wanna move close to her family. I LOVE Mason it's such a nice area too. I drove to Florence last time I was there and I got a real kick out of the "Florence Yall" water tower.

I remember, years ago, my first time down I-75 that way and looking ahead and seeing that water tower. And in the distance, hearing the sounds of Dueling Banjos and squealing pigs.

we pulled off to this general store on Rt 18 over there.. it was in the middle of nowhere. Miles of just fields and woods. A cop told us to go there cause we were from NJ and would probalby like to see something country-ish.
