Hi guys,

for nostalgia (my first mac was an iBook blueberry) and because I need a cheap server I want to buy an iBook. first thought about an SE 366 failed because of missing firewire support. I want easy access to a backup drive.

What about the 466 SE iBooks? Does Panther run well on them?
Does anyone run Yellow Dog Linux on this iBook? How is that?

Panther won't run "well", but it will run. If you turn off some of the graphical effects, it'll run a bit better.

YDL should be fine, just don't expect to be able to play DVD's on it under YDL. Not that YDL comes with a DVD player anyway...

Oh, and on a machine that common, YDL will work very, very well hardware wise - drop in CD, hold down C, install, done.

Its just a bitch on OldWorld machines, G5 iMacs and the latest iBook/AlBook...

I think it will run fine. I ran my 500 mhz iBook without any huge headaches for basic stuff.
