I'm not sure if this has been posted, so forgive me if it has been, but the technology in this demo seems pretty amazing to me. Any thoughts on its possible uses?

wow...

well, considering the demo, I'm sure the military can find something to do with it. It sorta had me thinking of the Return of the Jedi scene where they all stand around the table planning the battle.

There's a TiBook in the background when the camera pans over to the toy car.

That's an interesting technology, but I wonder how it will be implemented...

Total Immersion Technology, or TIT, creates "augmented reality (and) seamlessly blends real-time video with virtual 3D or databased objects". How interesting indeed.

How do they map an analog signal to a 3D world? This is the remarkable thing to me.

It's very interesting. I think it needs a little more work. The demo generally went well, but there were a few small problems (the flower flickering for a moment, his other hand appearing behind the saber, etc.). I think a great use would be for special effects in film. Could easily cut down on a lot of post-production work and time involved with that.
Genius. You know who.

Hence the acronym for Total Immersion Technologogy. They just forgot to mention the Analog Signal Sequencing as well, yielding of course...

My question is how much "out-of-band" data was required.
Did the software receive just the video signal from the camera? Or did it receive
* position and angle of the camera
* modeling beforehand about the 3-D structure of the table, the objects on it, etc.
* "bluescreen"-ish target points in the room to help it calibrate its understanding of the geometry

If you could just take a handheld digicam and feed to the software, without telling it beforehand the geometry of the scene you're shooting, I'd be very impressed.
