I am buying a G5 Dual Quad 2.5 next month; I'm debating what kind of display I should get. I currently own a 22" Cinema Display (older one, moderate use as it was a store display but I've rarely used it).
I'm a graphic designer (soon to be gradated in May) and everyone is telling me if I can, get dual displays! I've never worked behind a dual display so I need some advice.. I've seen the 30" Cinema Displays and they seem overwhelming (especially when you think it'll sit next to a 22" Cinema Display I already own). One person I know who has a 30" Cinema Display has sat behind it for a several months now and actually doesn't like it as much as his old 23" but he's also not using power apps for graphic designing..
BTW, the following App's I use are: Adobe CS2 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobate Professional), Dreamweaver & Flash, Quark, Appreture, occasionally After Effects and once in a blue moon, Final Cut. I also use ALL the iLife Apps.
What do you recommend, 23" Cinema Display or 30" Cinema Display?

Get the 23. Use it for your main display, and throw all your palettes on the 22.

If you dont like dual display, buy the 30". If you like using dual displays keep the 22" and buy the 23" display.
It depends in what you like.
Personally and dont like using dual display. But it's pretty useful putting all the palletes in the second display.

I would sell what you have and get dual 23" displays (as compared to getting one 30" display). IMHO, I would rather have the horizontal space as compared to the vertical but it's very much a preference thing.
pixel for pixel, the 23" is a better value (you get approx. 600,000 [app. 15%] more pixels with dual 23 as compared to a 30") That being said, you have a big annoying "break" between your monitors.

doesn't the 22" have the same resolution as the 20"? regardless, i would totally get the 23" if i already own a 20"+ display, but that's because i prefer dual displays.

I currently use a 30" with the same programs you use plus Final Cut Studio. I wouldn't trade it for anything. The only thing better will be setup with 2 30" monitors.
