(First, for the record, no, I do not have a life)

I was reading through the man page on gcc in 10.4.4 and I came across this:

"-fobjc-gc
Enable garbage collection (GC) for Objective-C objects. The
resulting binary can only be used on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and
later systems, due to additional functionality needed in the (NeXT)
Objective-C runtime
"

This implies to me that we might not ever have to see posts about Obj-C memory handling in the future!

That's rad, just as long as we don't have to use it (for those of us who garner perverse pleasure from retaining and releasing).

This has been obvious for a while now. Ever since 10.4 came out, NSObject had documentation for things like:
-----
- (void)finalize

Called by the garbage collector when the receiver is not referenced by other objects.
Note: Garbage collection is not available for use in Mac OS X v10.4, nor in earlier versions.
-----
And finally, post 1000.
Genius. You know who.
