Hey folks,

I recently purchased a dual-core 2.3ghz Power Mac G5 setup for video editing. I'm interested in buying a new LCD setup. I was thinking of getting an Apple 23", but the price seems steep compared to the Dell 24". I was thinking of either getting a Dell 24" or two Dell 20", but I heard that Final Cut Pro has issues with displays running at 60Hz. Apparently it drops frames when previewing, etc. As far as I know, the Dells run at 60Hz in their native resolutions. The Apple ACDs, on the other hand, run at 75Hz at their native resolutions. Can anyone shine some light on this?

Thanks

I'd also like to know about missing/skipping frames associated with the dell 2405fpw.

I want to use it while connected to my 15" powerbook, hope it works

Yeah, apparently it'll lose frames when previewing at the 60Hz refresh rate. I know the 20" Dell has the same LG LCD as the 20" ACD...but if I can remember correctly, when I tested a FCP on a 20" ACD at the Apple Store, FCP prompted me because of lost frames.

Barefeats says:
January 9th, 2006 (Updated) -- FCP PLAYBACK PROBLEM REPORTED
Readers have reported to me a problem with skipped frames during playback with Final Cut Pro using the Dell LCD 2405FPW display at 60Hz. Apple warns about problems with 60Hz refresh rate in an article on their web site, but that applies to CRTs. Most readers report NO problems with the Dell 2405FPW. We can't duplicate the problem in our lab. Apple recommends refresh rates of 75Hz or higher. The Quad-Core with the FX 4500 connected to the Dell 2405FPW can be set to 75Hz at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution. The native 1920x1200 only can run at 60Hz on the Dell. It's unknown what scan rate the Cinema displays use. If you open the Displays preference panel, refresh rate is "n/a."

They also have a comparison of the 23" Apple and 24" Dell.
