I can't open a port in the Sharing/System Pref Pane on my G4 iBook (10.4.7). I can click on Edit... on existing ports, but am unable to create a new one. I connect wirelessly to a d-link DI-624 router. The button activates when I click on it, but nothing happens. The Intel iMac works OK. I was trying to open up 5052 for DropCopy. ARD and SpyMe stopped working, also. I have all the ports open on both machines that should be.
W....liar or idiot? Pick two.

is the "New" button showing that you can click on it? Or does it show as disabled (hence the reason for trying to use edit...)?

for ARD, do you have that opened on the services section?
some people are like slinkys: they don't do much, but are fun to push down stairs.

The New button blinks when you click it, like it is trying to enable something, but it doesn't do anything. I can Edit existing port configurations by clicking that button. Yes, ARD and the other VNC ports are open on both machines, and I was able to connect with ARD and SpyMe yesterday. Wasn't able today.
