Hilarious... I really wonder who would buy such a system. I can accept that there is an audience out there that needs a "portable" system [a system that you would need to move from location to location on a semi-regular basis]
Obviously this isn't going to be replacing my 12 iBook any time soon.
The photo you have linked is hilarious. I'd get upset if someone opened up such a monster on the DC metro!

Having just moved from DC to NYC I think this is especially true. Dc'ers are a pretty buttoned-down lot whereas in NYC, folks have a studied world-weariness about them. Just look at the guy to the right of the laptop user (on the left in the photo); His expression says, "Huh, more subway weirdness. Oh well!" with utter resignation.
I have only been here for six weeks but I have seen a lot on the NYC subways that you would never see in DC. I haven't seen any muggings or sex on a late-night train, though. But give me time, I'm sure I will.
(Regular rider of A C and 2 3 4 5 lines between Brooklyn and Manhattan.)

I rarely see people take out any notebook on the subway in NYC. I think if this guy regularly took out a 20 inch notebook on the 4 train he would be beaten eventually. Plan and simple. It gets so crowded I've seen verbal fights break out because someone breathed on someone else.

Yeah, I've seen some "your taking up too much of my space" encounters on the A C line.
Where are you in Brooklyn? I am just south of Atlantic Avenue in the Crown Heights/Weeksville area, two block from the Kingston/Throop stop. I usually take the A C lines in the morning and the 2 3 home. I get off somewhere on Eastern Parkway and walk home from there.

I've been on the NYC subway and London Underground a number of times and found the DC Metro to be the best. That being said, it's much smaller, and has new overcrowding issues to worry about.

I saw a 20" laptop on display at Compusa a few weeks ago and remember thinking at the time, "It's gone to far."
We need mass market flexible LCDs pronto.

At this point it's technically a 'notebook' and not a 'laptop.'

I have lived in Manhattan all my life, and noticed that people rarely busted out notebooks in the subway, but I never thought it was because of space; I believed it to be because laptops are relatively expensive items. I'd never even pull my laptop sleeve out of my backpack for fear of getting it snatched.
I used to also worry about that with my iPod, but now they are as common as **** in a toilet, so that fear's gone.

If it had an Apple logo and looked like that, I don't think I'd be tripping over myself for it.
IMHO, it looks like a monster. I'm sure someone needs such a machine...

I just saw one of those in a Fona shop today (well, not necessarily that exact model, but a ginormous twenty-incher*, anyways). It was heavy as hell—felt like a lot more than 18 pounds; felt more like 25-30 pounds.
*Notebook! A twenty-inch notebook, damnit, a notebook!

I thought my 15" "desktop replacement" laptop was heavy at about 9 pounds. I must be a wimp-or the dude in the subway picture does curls with his "laptop" to stay in shape.
Stupid huge. And just plain stupid. It's a desktop computer with a tiny CPU box and a huge flat panel screen. That's no moon laptop, it's a space station desktop.

Sex on a train/subway at 4am is awesome. I highly recommend it.
Put in the list of "things to do before you croak".
Edit: and yes, a 20" laptop is moronic.

Where did beer come into this? If it came with good beer, I might be tempted to look into it.
Ever had Shiner Bock beer? Or their Blonde? They make GOOD beer, and they're in Central Texas. Don't judge America by Anheuser-Bush.

OK...now that was completely uncalled for.
What has it been? Like 2 years since my Deliverance machine topped 4GHz?
And Apple has yet to match a PC I built on my livingroom floor.
But, 2 years later you can buy a Mac with GMA950 integrated graphics in a plastic enclosure. Better yet, for only $200 more you can get your plastic in black.
Color me unimpressed.

My phone is 5.8 GHz. Your PC is pathetic. (As long as we're using context-free numbers as a measure of quality.)

Like most ads, I had tuned it out. Thanks for the illumination. And to me, "Budweiser Light" is good for rinsing out one's beer glass in preparation for real beer. "Light" beer is just too lacking in all the beer-like qualities I like.
Uninspiring. Not faster than anything Steve McQueen owned, not faster than a lot of new (and human-portable) Macs. Just bigger. Really, as I said earlier, a more easily moved desktop with a big screen.
