Every month, I backup my Mail account (which is IMAP) by dragging the entire account to my backup drive... It grinds and whirrs for a while and then I have everything on my drive. My remote sever mail size matches that of my local backup.

The other day, my remote server was hacked and I've lost all my data, remotely. Since my accounts are IMAP, it synched to the server and thusly erased everything locally.

I've tried to import my backups into mail using the Import command... and It says Import Data From: and I choose Mail for Mac OS X... and it says "You will now be asked for the location of a folder containing mailboxes created by another copy of mail for Mac OS X."

I then choose my backup folder and I get a message saying "Error, no valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found."

WHAT?

I can go into the backup folder and open the mail files individually (double click on them and Mail opens up and displays the message), no problem. I've tried drilling down into each folder through the import screen and it still doesn't let me import. Same error messages and everything.

Why.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

All as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as Love.
