What is a good freeware program that allows me to shrink/compress fullsize DVD's down to 4.36gb to fit on a single layer DVD-R?
I found several on the internet, but don't know which to choose.

What is good/reliable?

Hi canadian,

You could give HandBrake a spin, I use it and it's very good.

OR

DVD2oneX

Toast 8 will do so automatically as well, and it's a great all-purpose burn program.

Somewhat pricey, but since it will also automatically convert all manner of video to DVD format - if you want it to - simply by dragging various films to the Toast Video DVD window and hitting "burn", I find it *very* useful.

HandBrake is for DVD->MP4, not DVD9->DVD5.

DVD2oneX was uncrippled shareware up until version 1.3.0, IIRC.

Any version 1.3.0 or lower will shrink a complete DVD down.
