OK, what am I missing here?

With Tiger, I placed an alias of my hard drive in the dock. Navigating the HD was a breeze, moving though every folder as needed. Now, with Leopard, I find that my hard drive alias in the dock is represented by a folder (that's fine), but I can no longer navigate in the same easy fashion that I was used to. I click on the folder and get the fan out of the first level contents...but I can't drill down any further than that without lots of clicking to open sub folders and sub-sub folders.

I have to be missing something here. I cannot believe it is now more cumbersome to navigate in this manner.
