I'm trying to recover an external drive that was used as my Time Machine drive, but the drive seems to be on the edge of failure. I've read so much good news about DiskWarrior I decided to give it a shot.

I run it on my C2D MacBook, and at about step 8 DW freezes; forcing it to quit initiates a kernel panic.

If I boot from the DW disc and try rebuilding the directory on this drive, I also get a kernel panic. The first time I ran DW from CD, the KP issued while reviewing the new directory structure prior to writing it to disk. After that, the KP issues at the point right before I get the option to write the new directory structure.

Now, I know not to use DW on a 10.5 boot disc; the drive I'm having trouble with is a 300 GB Samsung IDE drive in an Adaptec enclosure. It's not an enclosure issue, as the drive was in a different enclosure at the start of trouble.

I've set TM up to use a new 160 GB SATA drive, but hate to lose all my backup data on the Samsung; it's been the TM drive since Leopard came out.

Ideas?
