Carbon 1.3.1 - Placebo Effect?

I noticed last night that on various sites, people who installed the new Carbon and said they noticed faster System response and also in using Explorer got flamed to kingdom come.
So when I installed it this afternoon, I have to say, I too noticed that things picked up a bit. I was curious to know if anyone else experienced this "placebo effect"?

the update should have no effect on system performance unless your running programs written for osx anyway

actually, carbonlib is needed by a number of apps in 8.6-9.1
(iTunes, i believe, audion, others)
can't report any "speed" improvs, but, as always, if there are bug fixes...

Hi Kestral,
In OS X, I have noticed explorer to be a little bit faster/responsive than in 9.1... to test this, I compared the Explorer 5.0 running under 9.1 to the same version running in Classic under X. I used ZDNet's Internet Benchmark, I=Bench to test the speed difference. Basically, there is a 100 point difference between my Classic and OS 9.1 speeds, with the Classic Explorer outperforming 9.1. My machine is a TiBook G4 500, 512MB, 30 GB HD... running OS 9.1 (w/all latest updates), and OS X 10.0.3. To be sure, I ran the test 3 times each OS, with 9.1 benching around 580, and Classic hitting around the 475 mark...

I forgot to add, previously (and it has been a probably since OS 10.0.0) when I ran this, my Explorer under classic would report slower speeds than the 9 version... but didn't record those...

I going to move this to the OS X general discussion forum, because I think it is a great cross discussion (especially since Carbon most directly affects running applications in Classic).
Kestral, this was not placed in the wrong forum for OS 9.1, I just want to clarify that I think we'll get more discussion in the OS X general forum... thanks for the good topic...
