When I go to the software update panel,I get the message"softwareupdate can't be executed"
Any ideas why?
I'm running 9.1(no problems)on a 400dv imac.

Have you tried going to the extension manager and starting with the OS 9.1 All extensions set enabled, and seeing if you can then use software update? It might be an extensions conflict...

I had this exact same problem once. And someone here (can't remember who) told me how to fix it. It's not an extension conflict though, although it is an extension issue. I suspect you have turned off most/all of your security extensions. For some reason turning these off means Software update won't work. Turn them all back on again and see what happens..
