I know the usual people are going to like this and dislike this based on who is saying this, but I think this segment speaks to where we are quite well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIMW1C-yy8k
We are a dumb population, and this was so well before Trump ever became a thing, so this isn't just a statement about 2016 political preferences. How can the country up its game so that politicians (on both sides) have a harder time taking advantage of this? Try to not just rant about the left or right, I'm more interested in this from a cultural standpoint than a policy standpoint.

Maher is an insufferable, arrogant, misogynist pig who stopped being funny 10 years ago.

To put it another way, making me tolerate him for seven minutes is asking a lot. Perhaps a tl;hate the ****er is in order.

Okay, now that we've gotten the knee jerking out of the way, what about his actual points?

I haven't watched the video yet but if his basic premise is that large segments of the American electorate are woefully uninformed then I'd agree.

I'm not going to watch it. Was that unclear?

I've never seen anything to make me think he's a misogynist. Where are you getting that from?

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

As is the usual case, any selected situation/event can be used to "prove" or "demonstrate" what you want it to do by putting it in whatever context you want to. Yes, some Americans are so stupid that you wonder how they remember to breathe. So are some Canadians, some Chinese, and some Ethiopians. Picking your example and casting it the way you want to can make anything look bad...

He's a Lothario, and proud of it.

I don't like his idiotic stance on vaccines but otherwise I have no problem with him.

What about "big pharma is in collusion with the food industry to make us sick on high fructose corn syrup so we're forced to buy big pharma's product"?
He was also one of the original "I drive a Prius, what are you doing to address the causes of 9/11" people.
I could handle the conspitard stuff, the smug self-satisfaction, the laughing at his own jokes, and being an unrepentant womanizer... if he was actually ****ing funny.

No worse than any other, but we get more flak because more is expected of us.
