I can get a celeron 533 computer for next to nothing and i was wondering what this would be best a chewing up for team macnn, I plan on installing win 98 or linux. seti, ubero (best i would think).....I can get these computers for any one else too
celeron 533, 32 ram, 20 gig hd, keyboard, mouse..... $250 if anyone is looking for a cheap computer to compute, these are new with warrenty. I'm a small time computer reseller so I get a deal on these things.

they also have 40x cd-rom and floppy disk, modem, usb ports, vga monitor port.

If you do get it, install Linux. I tend to like either Debian or Mandrake 8.1. However, if you want to get the Windows-compatible software, install it, but put it on a second partition.

I would probebly do a dual boot install of mandrake and win 98. I have had good luck with that in the past. What kind of crunching speeds do you think it would get?

ubero or RC5.
SETI sucks on celerons.
But that isn't really a good price for that system.

It comes with 128 ram, my bad. And that is a good price for the whole deal like that.

I plan on getting one. it will be usefull to crunch and i can use it for misc windows tasks i might need to do, that i currently do in virtual pc.

Load Windows 98 and disable almost everything that isn't required for DC (connectingf to Internet, basically) and install Ubero. Ubero is alright on Celerons. Not as good as RC5 on G4s.
