As an introduction on this forum, allow me to say I'm on a G4 dual 1GHZ with macOSX 10.3.5, and recently upgraded from Safari 1.2.3 to 1.2.5.
I'm getting several "localized string not found" notifications in document window titlebars, and buttons that earlier said "Browse".
During a call to the AppleCareCenter we've trashed prefs, reset Safari, created a new account - no succes. I'd appreciate any help, and apologize if this topic has come up before without me finding it.
TIA

Haven't you launched "SafarIcon" recently? That application can delete your *.proj files from Webkit.
(/System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/*.lproj/)
Here's the solution.
- Reinstall Webkit
- Or copy Webkit from your another Mac (if you have one)
- Or else, you'll have to reinstall Panther.

I've heard of this issue before and most people say that it was fixed by re-applying the "OS X Panther Combo Update" again...in your case, I guess it would be re-applying the 10.3.5 Update again...

I used to have this exact same problem. The only way I could fix it was a reinstall of webkit. I tried reapplying OS updates and that didn't work.

Thank you !
All it took was replacing the mentioned Resources folder (I dragged one from a working mac into the right location)
Indeed I launched Safaricon more than once. So I trashed it right away

Hate to come back with more Safari trouble.
Now I miss the icon-like thread indicators in the left margin on this very forum (new message, etc.).
Perhaps my replacing the Res folder wasn't enough - so, next step : how do I reinstall Webkit ?
Forgot to say : Camino works well (indicators show). Hmm, do I make the jump ?

How to reinstall Webkit:
First, go to apple.com and download Safari
Second, remove /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework
Third, run that safari installer
If you fail to download Safari before trashing webkit, you wont be able to get online using any browser, and the only thing that will fix it is a complete reinstallation of OS X. So make sure you download Safari first.

You might want to quit other apps that make use of Webkit as is.
- Mail.app
- Help Viewer
- RealPlayer 10 beta

When entering a username/password to a site (like this), Safari used to come up with the question to eventually store these date. In Camino I haven't seen this yet - any thoughts ?

I was having this problem too, and copying the /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework folder from my other Mac solved it. Thanks everybody!

I once followed a tip from nooon (Best Browser thread) and applied (this) in Safari. After some fiddling I came to discover this file also blocked the thread icons in the left margin.
Cheers, nooon - no hard feelings whatsoever
