Rumor: Suppliers mass shipping new iMacs and 13.3-inch MBP

Apple's upstream supply chain have reportedly <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/267320== http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20120910PD208.html?mod=2" rel='nofollow'>started shipments</a> of new iMac and 13.3-inch MacBook Pro models to Apple, according to <em>Digitimes</em>. The rumored 13.3-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is also said to be included in the new shipments. <em>Digitimes</em> supply chain sources say that the new models should arrive achieve sufficient stock supply levels to debut later in September or in October.<br><br>The Taiwanese tech blog also reports that Apple had originally planned to introduce three new iMac models with upgraded panels and running Intel's new Ivy Bridge processors. Apple currently has two main iMac lines, one centering on a 21.5-inch display, and the other on a 27-inch display. The rumored third model was said to be a new high-end model but has been postponed indefinitely due to low yields of a new panel, sounding suspiciously like a Retina-level display.

The report corroborates a <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/267321== http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/09/07/use.of.retina.displays.still.matter.of.debate/" rel='nofollow'>recent report</a> from <em>Fox News</em>, which claimed that Apple is on the verge of updating its iMac line with stock levels of the current models said to be running low. USB 3.0 ports and SSD options are also inline for the refresh. <em>NPD</em> also <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/267322== http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/06/15/four.million.13.inch.two.million.154.inch.for.2012/" rel='nofollow'>recently asserted</a> that a Retina Display-equipped 13.3-inch MacBook Pro is also imminent, which is said to sport a resolution of 2560x1600. Like the new iMacs, it will also incorporate USB 3.0 and offer SSD options.

I pity the fool who buys a first gen retina iMac. Apple will put in a video card that is barely able to drive the extra pixels and it will be impossibly slow if you try todo any kind of video production work.

I suspect retina resolution (5MP+?) may be more useful to such as photographers and graphic designers than videographers given the limits of common video resolution ?

Just like the MBP, customers will weight the pros of having the screen with the cons of the limitations of the video card. People are buying the MBP Retina in droves and many are calling it the best Mac Apple ever made (even taking performance of the day into context).

Yes, the iMac screen is much larger, requiring a much faster video card, but that doesn't mean it'll be impossible. People have been doing 4K work for a few years now with slow video cards.

The retina display is a true joy to work on. Any other display I've worked on since I received my MBPro Retina is comparatively hard on the eyes. I can't comment on how powerful the video card is for video work. ... but, I will say that the machine overall is **incredibly** fast. Definitely the best Mac I've ever owned.
