Yahoo's former interim chief executive officer Ross Levinsohn has been appointed chief executive of Guggenheim Digital Media, the digital distribution avenue of private equity firm Guggenheim Partners. The company operates Prometheus Global Media, publisher of Adweek, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, and others.
In the position at the newly-created division, Levinsohn will work with those titles and Guggenheim's other conventional media assets, including Dick Clark Productions. Guggenheim Partners President Todd Boehly said in a statement that the new digital arm is seeking other investments in the media, technology and entertainment spaces.
Levinsohn had been telling candidates for senior positions in the summer of 2012 that he was seeking the Yahoo chief position on a permanent basis. The job was eventually filled by ex-Google executive Marissa Mayer. After a stint as head of Fox Interactive Media, Levinsohn joined Yahoo in 2010 as executive vice president of the Americas, and was named interim CEO of Yahoo following the departure of Scott Thompson amid controversy about resume educational discrepancies.
