Microsoft Surface Pro rolling off production line, due soon
Microsoft's long awaited Surface with Windows 8 Pro is rolling off the production line and will be on sale soon. Redmond's Panos Panay, the general manager of Microsoft's Surface hardware has tweeted the news and said that it will be "arriving in the coming weeks." The Surface Pro is expected to shake up the Windows 8 ultrabook market when it launches, undercutting many competing products, while offering better flexibility.
The Surface Pro was originally revealed at the same time Microsoft revealed the Surface RT in June last year. Since then, the Surface RT has gone on sale and has notched up just 1 million sales following its October 26 debut. The Surface RT, which we felt was a brave effort by Microsoft to deliver a device that blended the functionality of a notebook with a tablet, has appeared to suffer from a lack of app support and backwards compatibility with Window software.

The Surface Pro addresses these issues, but has its own compromises being both thicker and heavier, as well as offering only half the battery life at around 5 hours. It is also more expensive starting at $899 for a 64GB version and $999 for the 128GB model. However, it runs Windows 8 Pro and is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, as well as centering on a high-quality 1080p-capable ClearType display that has received lots of praise by those who have seen it.
